Taking stock from the devastating floods of May 2017

Report from the field from the areas of Hakmana, Dickwella, Dondra, Tangalla and Thihagoda

With the flood waters receding from the worst hit areas, we are able to take stock of loss and damage to property of Navajeevana beneficiaries. Here are photos of homes, kitchens and toilets destroyed. Most of these constructions are just clay and wattle and couldn’t stand the gale force winds, the flood waters and landslides.

It is hard for people with disabilities to manage without basic toilet facilities and unlike the able, they are not mobile enough to share a neighbour’s toilet…
